High School Week Group Photo, 1962

This is one of the more difficult to identify -- lots of shadows, not quite as good resolution. Mike Bush is between 1:6 and 1:7. Stu Couve is wearing a hat so he's easy on the back row. Might be Kay Wiseman, then Sandi Heston and George McCarthy to the right of the tallest guy in the back (Daryl Bishop). Joe Fehr is between the two pointy hats in the back. The two pointy hats.?.one may be Janet Cothern. One year she wore a hat like that to camp. But can't see her face. Right of the hat girls is John Griffin, then Joe Webb. Right of Stu Couve is Charlie Burns. Dan Williams two left of him. Bill Vandervoort and Gene Talbot about 5 left of Dan. What's with those pointy hats?

Various weeks, circa 1961

Lynne Gurley remembers...One week there was some kind of contest between the teams. We had to write songs and perform them about faculty members. For some strange reason, I still remember our song, and can still sing it! Our faculty member was Danny Bowling and this picture brings it all back: (To the tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean")

"Danny Bowling's a mighty nice fellow.
You can tell by the lift of his chin.
But each time he bends his poor elbow,
Oh boy, how the vittles roll in.
Roll in, roll in,
Oh boy, how the vittles roll in, roll in.
Roll in, roll in,
Oh boy, how the vittles roll in!"

Maybe we will get her to sing it for us and post it for all to hear!

Bill Griffin is in the Jr Boys pic (top left). Dan Bowling and Stu Couve eating watermelon. (top right). Ed Armstrong is the preacher in the Pre Hi (above right) pic. Is that Judy Roodhouse just above Danny Williams, and Kathy Roodhouse across the table at the top? Maybe a First Chance week since there are both boys and girls?

1960 High School pics

Being dean was tough on Gil Schreiber.

I'm not sure about Charlie Greer's box hockey technique. Bill Griffin is other box hockey player.

Boys dorm. In boys dorm picture Larry Wisely is shirtless boy in front of mirror, tall guy is Larry Dickey, Fred McKean is the boy in a dark shirt in middle of picture and Joe Feher is behind looking over Fred's right shoulder.

Another memory from everybody's favorite life guard... The scene in the boys dorm: The great big guy is Larry Dickey. Larry was from either Flora or Fairfield, I don’t remember which. He was Bill Stark’s nephew and would often come to camp during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Fred McKean is also in that picture.

Larry, Fred, Norman Ray, and I had what was called the “Coke Bottle Quartet”. We would all wear suits. I would open the bottle of coke then hand it to Norman. Norman would hold it up to the light and examine it for color, then for aroma. Norman would then hand it to Larry who would chug it (very, very fast—faster than it could be poured out onto the ground. We timed it. He deployed some sort of sucking method). The finale was that Fred McKean would belch loudly into a microphone. It was, as I recall, a very popular performance.

Life Recruit Week, 1962

I'm just guessing at the year -- I am in the front second from right as a faculty kid, and I only had long hair in 3rd grade so this is approximate. Double click for a closer look. In addition to the two in the next pic below I recognize Sandi Heston, Dolly Black, Kay Wiseman. Pop Smith. - Paula
