Corn Eating Contest 1960 Jr. Hi Week

(Thanks to Sandi Heston Rinderer -- all comments and IDs are her fine and faithful work.) 1:1 Ronnie Schreiber, 1:2 Normae Dorsch, 1:14 Lois Anderson, 1:16 Carla Clover; 1:17 Cindy Harden 2:8 Judy Paine, 2:16 Darlene Lewis 3:3 Diana Rafferty, 3:7 Linda Reavis, 3:12 Barb Haley, 3:16 Ronnie Turner 4:4 Jane Day, 4:8 Ron Lambert, 4:9 Ron Herrod 5:1 Sandy Heston, 5:2 Nancy Spratt, 5:7 Becky Huck, 5:12 Rose Motzer 6:1 Bill Griffin, 6:10 Betty Schreiber, 6:11 Gil Schreiber, 6:12 Robbie Schreiber, 6:13 Larry Zumwalt, 6:15 Johnny King, 6:16 Danny Clymer, 6:17 Harriet Griffin, 6:18 Jeannie Ray, 6:19 Don Ray,6:20 Dan Williams, 6:21 Gene Talbot, 6:22 Helen Talbot, 6:23 Charlie Greer

In first corn-eating contest picture, the second boy, in dark shirt is Robbie Schreiber and the girl is Cindy Harden. Notice the "H" on her blouse? "Initial blouses" were all the rage then!

In the second picture, notice off to the left, a smiling Dan Williams ( I love that picture, it is the Dan we all remember! I can just hear his laugh!) and to his right, in dark blouse, is Nancy Spratt.

There is a boy way in the back, right, with a white hat and t-shirt on. I think that is Lew Williams.

And there is a darkhaired woman leaning out, looking down the table. I think that is Betty Schreiber, Robbie's mom.

1964 -- Measuring shorts

Some of us remember school dress codes. And yes, at camp, too. Barb Haley is checking but I'm not sure hers would pass. Frank Bush recalls, "The directors received a lot of criticism about girls' shorts, so they made a rule of not shorter than 3 inches above the top of the knee. I remember this week was hard on the Dean of Girls."

Sandi Heston Rinderer says, "The three girls are all from Greenville. L to R they are:Rose Motzer, Barb Haley and Pam Thompson.

"Kay Wiseman and I were from the era prior to this picture, that had loosened up a little bit and first allowed "shorts" rather than just pedal pushers or long pants. But the only shorts we were allowed had to come down to the knees. Kay and I solved the problem of length with some of our shorts that didn't quite come to the knee, by having her Grandmother sew a couple rows of color coordinated ruffles to our shorts to bring them in line with the knee-length dress code! I wonder if any pictures of those things exist? And, I also remember, that the first thing we did when we got home from camp was rip the ruffles off! We weren't about to be seen wearing those ruffled shorts around Greenville!"

Another early pic -- high school week?

Can anyone identify the campers and approximate year for this photo from Frank Bush's files? Do Kay Wiseman and Janet Ewald have their backs to the camera maybe? Behind the boy in the center -- is that Sandi Heston? And two behind her, Barbara also from Greenville? Sandi Heston Rinderer says, "The pix of High School week is indeed me behind the boy in the center. The boy in the center is Ronnie Volkmar, from Greenville. I think Barbara Haley is second behind me, also from Greenville and the blond girl to the right is Diana Rafferty from East St. Louis. Boy on the left with dark hair is Johnny King from Landsdowne church in East St. louis. He came to the '99 reunion and is working in N.Y. state planting churches. I think that might be Kay Wiseman's back in the center of the picture but doubt very much that it is Janet Elam Ewald there also. Based on our ages in the pix, I don't think that could be Janet Ewald. Not sure who it is. Maybe a Huck girl. "
